The route and how long it really takes
Most Vijayawada to Hyderabad taxis follow NH65, the four-lane highway that was numbered NH9 until the national highways were renumbered. Typical landmarks on the way include Nandigama, Kodad, Suryapet and Choutuppal before the road reaches the Hyderabad outskirts. Public route planners put the distance at roughly 270–280 km, and a clear-road drive takes about five hours.
Add time for what a planner does not show: a tea stop, a meal, a toll queue, and above all the last 30 km into Hyderabad. A realistic door-to-door estimate is five to six hours, and more if you arrive during morning or evening peak traffic. Alternative links exist when the main highway is congested, but they can lengthen the trip noticeably, so your driver’s call on the day matters.
One thing to keep in mind: news reports in November 2025 said the central government had approved widening NH65 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada from four to six lanes. If construction is under way when you travel, expect diversions and slower stretches, and leave a little extra buffer.
One-way or round trip?
This is the first choice to make, and it depends on what you need the car to do after it reaches Hyderabad.
- One-way drop: you need the taxi only to get from Vijayawada to Hyderabad (or the reverse). It suits airport connections, one-time relocations and business trips where you will return another way.
- Round trip: the same car and driver stay with you for the whole visit and bring you back. It suits a same-day or multi-day visit where you need local travel in Hyderabad as well.
A same-day return means roughly 550 km of driving, which is a long day for the driver and for you. If your meetings or family visit will run long, a round trip with one night in Hyderabad is often more comfortable than a rushed same-day return. Our guide to one-way versus round-trip taxis explains how dead kilometres and waiting charges affect each option, and why one-way is not automatically cheaper.
Which vehicle suits your trip
The vehicle types listed on our main website include hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MPVs such as Ertiga and Innova, and tempo travellers for larger groups. Which one is available depends on your date, so confirm when you request a quote.
| Group | Usually a good fit | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 people, light luggage | Hatchback or sedan | Fine for most one-day business trips |
| 3–4 people with luggage | Sedan, or an SUV/MPV if bags are bulky | Four adults plus large suitcases can be tight in a sedan boot |
| 5–7 people | SUV or MPV | Seven people plus luggage on a long drive is cramped; consider the next size up |
| 8 or more | Tempo traveller | Ask about the seat count and luggage space for your group |

Booking and pickup: what to share
Sending the right details in one message saves back-and-forth and helps us quote accurately. Include:
- Travel date and preferred pickup time
- Exact pickup location in Vijayawada (a landmark or map pin helps)
- Drop location in Hyderabad. The city is large, so the locality matters for timing and for the quote
- Number of passengers, plus the number and size of bags
- One-way or round trip, and how many days you want the car in Hyderabad
Ask to receive the vehicle and driver details before the day of travel, and agree the pickup time with some margin. If you are catching a flight or train, work backwards from the departure time rather than forwards from the drive estimate.
Journey planning tips
Pick your departure time with Hyderabad in mind
The drive on the highway is the predictable part. The unpredictable part is Hyderabad itself. If you must be somewhere by a fixed time, aim to reach the outskirts well before the morning or evening peak.
Watch the holiday peaks
Festival periods such as Sankranti and Dasara typically bring heavy traffic and crowded toll plazas on this corridor as families travel between the two cities. If you are travelling then, book early and leave extra time.
Plan for a break
A 15–20 minute stop roughly midway is worthwhile even on a five-hour drive, particularly with children or older passengers.
Tolls, charges and fare questions
The highway has several toll plazas, mostly collected through FASTag. Because the Telangana border is crossed on this route, ask whether any inter-state permit or entry charges apply to your vehicle and whether they are included in the quote. The indicative rates on our homepage tariff section are described there as including toll and driver allowance, with the final quote confirmed on WhatsApp. Whatever the operator, ask for the inclusions and exclusions to be stated for your specific trip.
Is toll included? Is driver allowance included? What are the waiting charges, and after how long? What happens if the pickup or drop point changes? Is there any extra charge for night travel or additional stops?
Airport transfers
Our local services include airport drops in Vijayawada. If you want to be picked up or dropped at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as part of the same booking, check with us when you request the quote whether that can be arranged for your date. The airport is on the southern side of Hyderabad, so allow for that in your timing if your destination is elsewhere in the city.
